Who Must Take the Oregon Knowledge Exam?
For an Oregon original license of any type or upgrade to a different you must pass the following tests: vision, driving Knowledge, and driving skill (road test).
Persons under 18 years of age must also take the Safe Driving Practices Knowledge Test to get a license.
Anyone moving to Oregon with an out-of-state or out-of-country license must pass the class C knowledge test and surrender any valid driver license or permit issued by another jurisdiction. If your license has expired or isn’t valid you must pass the road test as well.
Oregon Knowledge Test
The Oregon class C knowledge test has questions about road signs, traffic laws and other information you need to know to drive in Oregon. Answers to all questions are found in the Oregon Driver Manual.
The knowledge test is offered on a touch-screen computer, with or without audio assistance. It is a multiple-choice test with 35 questions. To pass you must correctly answer 28 questions; a passing score of 80%.
If you fail any of your first three knowledge test attempt, you must wait until at least the next day before taking a new test. Failing a fourth or subsequent attempt, requires a waiting time of 28 days or more.
Languages
The test is available in one of the following languages: English, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
With permission, you may use a foreign language translation dictionary or an authorized interpreter. Contact your local DMV office for further details. You should also contact DMV if you require any other special accommodation.
Cheating
Only people taking the test are allowed into the testing area, except for authorized interpreters.
During the test it is not allowed to cheat, talk, use a cell phone or any other electronic devices, write or take notes. If you don’t follow rules and guidance given, or you are found cheating, staff will stop your test immediately. DMV will not allow you to test again for 90 days.
